Oh My God You Guys... Legally Blonde is at Waterside Theatre this week... and what a great excuse to wear pink in October!

Legally Blonde is a feel-good musical for everyone. It may seem pink and fluffy on the surface, but it actually deals with some serious issues, including discrimination based on appearance, abusive ex-boyfriends, and sexual harassment in the workplace.

Elle lives in Malibu and appears to have the perfect life. She has friends who care about her, a handsome and intelligent boyfriend, and a passion for fashion. However, when her boyfriend, Warner, breaks up with her because he is heading to Harvard Law School and believes Elle isn't serious enough, she decides to follow him there.

What? Like it's hard?!

No one takes her seriously and most people see her as just a blonde with no brains. However, Elle goes on to prove that she has exactly what it takes to succeed.

Elle is played by Amber Davies, and Amber is pure West End quality. Her performance is outstanding and allows the audience to fully enjoy Elle's journey. She has the perfect voice for the role and delivers a truly exceptional performance. It's no surprise that I am a fan of Amber and, after La Voix's exit from Strictly, all my votes went to Amber!

Warner is played by Jamie Chatterton, who plays the role effortlessly, with style and confidence. We warm to Warner before he breaks up with Elle. He wants a partner who fits his life expectations, and he doesn't believe Elle is that person.  His new girlfriend, Vivienne, is played by Annabelle Terry. It's not the easiest role to play, as Vivienne is cold, snobbish, and dismissive of Elle. However, Annabelle portrays her so well that, by the end, you can forgive her faults when she realises just how badly Elle has been treated.

Emmett is one of the first people to befriend Elle when she arrives at Harvard. He supports her from the beginning, and she returns that friendship in kind. Emmett is played by Louie Wood, who gives the role everything it needs: compassion, intelligence, and warmth. He delivers an excellent all-round "good guy" performance and also cleans up rather well when Elle treats him to a decent suit!

Paulette is a hairdresser who becomes a close friend to Elle, and together they support each other through difficult times. Paulette is played by Keanna Bloomfield, who steals every scene she is in with her fantastic attitude, powerful vocals, and natural likeability. Keanna was made for this role and shines throughout. I especially enjoyed the Irish element, which made me smile.  The bend and snap is iconic and we are all waiting for this part in the show – it doesn’t disappoint.

Adam Cooper plays Professor Callahan, a ruthless and intimidating figure. Adam delivers the role with ease and commands the stage whenever he appears.

The ensemble cast also give strong performances and bring great energy to the production. Their individual characterisations help create the world of the show and really complete the experience.

This is a show about love, empowerment, finding your true calling, and staying positive while being yourself, no matter what life throws at you. Who doesn't need a little bit of that in their life?

Legally Blonde is such a fun and enjoyable show. I absolutely love it and could happily watch it every night. It's pink, powerful and packed with personality!

So come on, you guys... Legally Blonde is at Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury until 10 October 2026!
