La Voix is a superstar!

I have not had much experience of reviewing drag queen acts with the exception of panto land which of course I do annually. In fact, it is fair to say that this is my first experience of such an act but wow – was I impressed. La Voix is a huge talent. A true diva. She has a big voice, a significant stage presence and a huge personality.

She comes onto the stage and opens with Pink’s Let’s Get The Party Started but done in a classy diva style – very unlike Pink. It was truly stunning and a perfect opening number. La Voix chatted to the audience in her warm witty way but with an edge of bitch thrown in for good measure. Oh how I laughed when she said to someone, ‘You have sequins that are nice but I have Swarovski crystals. Don’t you just hate it when you pick up a dress with sequins on it and its only half done with lycra on the back’. Yes, I really do! I loved her interaction with the audience and her jokes. I especially enjoyed the one about Ariana Grande joking that she thought that was a font. She also said that lesbians do not like being called lesbians. The audience listened intently. ‘No’, she went on. ‘They much prefer the term vegans’. How the crowd laughed – no one saw that coming and then she asked if any vegans were in tonight without batting an eyelash. Every outfit she has I wanted. The stunning blue number which showed off her waist. The yellow ombre effect feather number and the stunning white number that wouldn’t look out of place on Strictly.

Supported by a four-piece band and two dancers she performed a range of numbers. She performed a stunning version of Cher’s Jessy James. If you closed your eyes it really was Cher on stage. Not only can La Voix sing beautifully, she can do it in several styles. I loved her Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey but best of all was her version of Liza Minelli. Not Liza Minelli as she was in Cabaret but how she would perform it today. She came on and did a version of Mein Herr with a chair that a 71-year-old Liza could do. It was funny and impressive at the same time. She explained how to do a good Tina Turner. Its all about pretending you have a coat hanger left in your outfit, you are having a stroke and are trying to walk with a ball between your legs. It was hard to imagine but we didn’t need to as she came on in a short Tina Turner outfit and a football between her legs. The crowd erupted in laughter that didn’t stop for ages but wow could she do Tina! Proud Mary and River Deep Mountain High. Her encore was Total Eclipse Of The Heart and had everyone on their feet. No one wanted to leave.

La Voix is everything you want to see for a great night’s entertainment. She is very talented and in my humble opinion deserves a prime-time Saturday night TV show. It almost feels we are depriving the population of such a star. She is fabulous darling! This is a show not to be missed.
